Always repair or replace a leaking faucet immediately because even a slow leak can waste huge amounts of water (as much as 15-20 gallons a day). You may need to replace the faucet all together or just the worn out part. An unattended leak can not only ruin floors or cabinets, but if the leak is caused by a worn seal, the faucet itself may become damaged and eventually require replacement.
